The Two Blokes Who Stole A $160K Big Bird Costume From An Adelaide Circus Could Face 10 Years

Big Bird

The two blokes thought it would be a good idea to steal a Big Bird costume from an Adelaide circus have now been charged.

The Big Bird costume was allegedly stolen last weekend (between Sunday night and Monday morning). On Monday, it was reported the costume had been stolen from the Sesame Street circus in Boynton Park, Thebarton, SA. The Sesame Street circus was part of a musical performance tour around SA that will wrap up in May.

Clearly, the Big Bird Bandits didn’t realise the costume is actually super valuable and worth $160,000. Ok, 10,000 I can maybe understand, but $160,000??? Are the feathers made of gold leaf and truffle oil?

After a wild goose (bird) chase, the costume was eventually returned and found next to an electricity box with an apology note on its beak.

“We are so sorry!!!!” the letter read.

“We had no idea what we were doing, or what our actions would cause.

“We were just having a rough time and were trying to cheer ourselfs (sic) up.

“We had a great time with Mr, Bird, he’s a great guy and no harm to our friend.

“Sorry to be such a big burden!

“Sincrerly,

“THE BIG BIRD BANDITS.”

Those two guys must’ve had a really rough day to justify resorting to crime. If I’m having a bad day I just get my nails done and eat Macca’s in bed.

But even though the Bird Bird Bandits returned the beloved Sesame Street character in one piece, the law isn’t too forgiving. On Friday night, two men aged 26 and 22 were charged with theft and being unlawfully on premises.

The two men will front the Adelaide Magistrate’s Court on June 30 and could face up to 10 years jail. Yikes. To be honest, I think the judge should shave a few years off the sentence for that excellent “big burden” pun. Although, I’m not sure that’s how the law works.

What a big blunder!
