Belle Gibson’s Mum Defends Daughter’s Fake Cancer Story As “White Lie”

The mother of Belle Gibson, the disgraced wellness blogger and founder of the hugely successful recipe app and book ‘The Whole Pantry‘, who admitted to lying over claims she had multiple cancers and healed through natural means, has defended her daughter for telling “white lies”.

Gibson’s mother Natalie Dal-Bello spoke to the Herald Sun, defending her daughter’s cancer story. “Belle told a white lie, aged 23-and-a-half. So what?” Dal-Bello said.

“Belle is allowed to tell little porky pies. Who the hell doesn’t tell a lie in their life? Nobody complained about Belle when she was helping people and now they want to put her under the microscope.”
The nature of Natalie Dal-Bello’s statements today differ to an interview she gave with the Australian Women’s Weekly last month.

Dal-Bello expressed her regret of the scandal to AWW in June, saying, “I can’t tell you how embarrassed we are about what she has done. And we sincerely wish to apologise to anyone who was deceived by Belle. For what small part we played in her life, we would like to say sorry.”

Dal-Bello added in her interview with the Herald Sun today, “It is time everyone moves on from this and allows Belle to grow and be a mother to her little boy. She should be left alone so she can get her life back on track.”

In May, Dal-Bello rejected Belle Gibson’s claims of a troubled childhood, saying, “What a lot of rubbish. I’ve practically worked myself into an early grave to give that girl everything she wanted in life.”

Consumer Affairs Victoria are currently investigating Gibson for fundraising fraud after soliciting donations for five charities, but  allegedly only giving $1000 in donations to one, education charity One Girl.

Earlier this month, Gibson turned in financial records and responded to questions about her health for the investigation, but did not attend court.
