Beautiful Losers Shorts

Much like No Wave, Disco and Hip Hop before it, the DIY Arts movement depicted in 2007’s “Beautiful Losers” first spawned in the belly of New York City. It was an incendiary high-low marriage built on disparate fringe cultures, unbridled creativity and zero expectations – an almost mythologized time and place where punk, hip hop, skate and graffiti collided in the cultural incubator of 1990’s New York City.

At the center of this movement was Alleged Gallery founder, Curator, Writer and “Beautiful Losers” Director Aaron Rose who is currently in Australia to promote an exhibition, Simulacrum and short film screening, Beautiful Losers Shorts. So even if you haven’t seen the original Beautiful Losers we highly recommend heading to The Chauvel this Saturday anyway as Rose will be hosting a screening of rare short films from the likes of Mike Mills, Harmony Korine, Geoff McFetridge, Spike Jonze, Chris Johanson, Jo Jackson, Thomas Campbell and Clare Rojas. Aside from the rarity of the shorts on offer, Rose will also provide personal anecdotes and descriptions of the films before they screen and admission is only five dollars so there’s really no excuse not to go to this.
