They’ve done it, it’s really happened: former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce and his partner/former media advisor/mother of his child Vikki Campion have done a “tell-all” interview with Channel 7‘s Sunday Night program, with the network offering viewers a sneak peek of the chat.
That’s fine, Channel 7, I really didn’t need that at all.
The footage, posted to the 7 News Twitter account, shows Campion saying “I couldn’t help it. You can’t help who you fall in love with”.
A first look at part of the interview that’s dividing opinion. The tell-all from @Barnaby_Joyce and his partner Vikki Campion. “You can’t help it. You can’t help, you can’t help who you fall in love with” – Vikki Campion. @Riley7News #auspol #7News pic.twitter.com/awtmfz5wKn

Yes, the heart wants what it wants and all that, but I’m frankly still shocked that Campion’s wanted the Human Beetroot. Each to their own though, I suppose.

Joyce has come under fire for accepting $150k for the interview deal, with News Corp claiming the couple shopped the interview opportunity around between Nine’s 60 Minutes and Sunday Night before finally choosing the latter. The outlet reports that the proceeds from the interview are going in a trust fund for the couple’s child Sebastian, who was born in April.
When asked by reporters about accepting the money, the Nationals MP shot back “I didn’t”, pointing out that the deal was signed by Campion. He added:
We tried for privacy. In the last fortnight we’ve had drones over our house. We’ve had paparazzi waiting for us outside Armidale airport… we’ve tried just burning this out and that didn’t work. But that is not what they wanted. They wanted an interview… to get Vikki’s side of the story and like most mothers she said, ‘Seeing as I am being screwed over… if everybody else is making money then [I am] going to make money out of it’.
Last night, it was reported that Joyce is taking an 11-week leave of absence from work for personal reasons, apparently set to return by August 13.
To get your Barnaby fix in the meantime, you can tune into his interview at 8.30pm on Sunday night.
