Former First Lady Barbara Bush has died after a period of deteriorating health. She was 92.
The death of the Bush family matriarch – she was wife to former President George H. W. Bush, and mother to former President George W. Bush – has prompted eulogies commemorating her steely wit, philanthropic drive, and lingering presence in the American political conscience.
The news also inspired a message from President Donald Trump, who called Bush “an advocate of the American family” who recognised “the importance of literacy as a fundamental family value”.
And the message listed the date as April 17, 2017.

The oversight, which does not appear to have been corrected in any further releases, has driven folks to comment on the apparent sloppiness of the current White House administration.
trump’s statement on the death of barbara bush is dated april 2017. oye. pic.twitter.com/D1qtf9IpSR

BABS BUSH BEEN DEAD SINCE APRIL 2017 AND WE’RE ONLY JUST NOW FINDING OUT?!?! (Thanks Obama!) Maybe instead of literacy being a fundamental family value it should have been proofreading? Just sayin. https://t.co/GN5Xr4jJWj

FWIW, here’s Bush herself on Trump during the 2016 election:
He doesn’t give many answers to how he would solve problems. He sort of makes faces and says insulting things. He’s said terrible things about women, terrible things about the military. I don’t understand why people are for him, for that reason.
Yikes.
