Bali Nine Smuggler Renae Lawrence Faces Arrest Warrant Upon Return To Sydney

The Daily Telegraph reports that Lawrence, who was arrested on Indonesia in April 2005 after trafficking roughly 2.7 kilograms of heroin strapped to her body, is the subject of an Australian arrest warrant also dating back to 2005.

Shortly before she travelled to Indonesia as part of the smuggling scheme, Lawrence and Bali Nine accomplice Matthew Norman were arrested in the NSW central coast after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car.

Lawrence was scheduled to appear in court but was arrested in Bali before she could face trial.

NSW Police say a 41-year-old woman was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, driving without a license, and failing to cooperate with police.

Lawrence will be the first of the Bali Nine group to walk free from prison in Indonesia. She successfully appealed her life sentence in 2006 and received a reduced 20-year-term, and had the remainder of her sentence commuted earlier this month.

Accused ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumuran were sentenced to death, and were executed by firing squad in 2015. Tan Duc Thanh Nguyen died of stomach cancer earlier this year.

The remaining five members of the group imprisoned over the scheme were sentenced to life behind bars.
