WATCH: Badass Old Stadium Outright Refuses To Be Demolished

Among the litany of things the good ole’ United States of A cannot seem to figure out right now, demolishing old stadiums is apparently right up there. We’ve seen them level one only for an untimely bus to park itself in front of the camera and absolutely ruin the shot, and now there’s been another one that took the demolition crew’s best shot and barely blinked.

The concrete behemoth known as the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit, Michigan was finally scheduled to hit the deck long after the resident Detroit Lions vacated the building back in 2001.

The Silverdome, bless its heart, had been largely abandoned since then and had fallen into severe disrepair. The slowly-recovering Motor City decided to put the building out of its misery by returning it to the ground from whence it came.

Only problem is, nobody apparently told the Silverdome.

The ageing grey beast might be a shade over 42-years-old, but its legs are no less solid. So when the controlled explosions tried to level it earlier today, the grizzly bastard refused to go down.

Imagine how humiliating that’s gotta be for the Demolition Tech. Weak-ass dork couldn’t even knock down a derelict stadium.

But on the other hand, you’re absolutely on the side of the stadium in this one. It took a straight shot to the foundations, barely staggered, wiped the blood from its mouth and asked it “is that the best you’ve got?

This is the building that withstood Hulk Hogan bodyslamming Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III in 1987. You think a weenie sticks of dynamite are gonna be enough to bring it down? Please.

The failed demolition was reportedly caused by as much as 10% of the explosive charges failing. A second attempt to bring it down will go ahead on a date TBA, with either the remaining charges or bulldozers being used to finish the job off.

But really, at the end of the day, that is one badass building.

Stand tall, champion.
