Austrian Man Caught Speeding By Same Speed Camera 42 Days In A Row

The day that I got two speeding fines from the exact same camera on Mount Coot-tha within an hour of each other, I was not thrilled. If you’ll permit me to use some mildly strong language here, I was incredibly cheesed off. I cannot even begin to fathom the incredible depths of despair and rage that Austrian baker Heimo Wallner was sent to when he realised he’d been nailed by the same speed camera 42 days in a row.

As the BBC is reporting, Wallner was smacked with a hefty $4,700 in fines after doing 50km/h in the same 30km/h zone over and over again on his way to work at three in the morning.

Wallner told Austrian media that he couldn’t see the signs and drove at what he assumed to be a safe and reasonable 50km/h. Because the speeding camera was an infrared one, he did not see a flash.

It took over a month for Wallner to receive his first fine, after which he realised that the damage had already been done.

He opted not to challenge the fine, citing time concerns: “You cannot lodge an appeal against all the fines in one go, so I would have had to make 42 separate challenges.

That does sound like it would suck a whole bunch of ass. The BBC added that the police knocked off around $470 from his fine, but that he still had to cancel a holiday in Greece that he had planned.
