Australian Senate Passes Controversial Carbon Tax

Today the Clean Energy Future Bill has been passed by the Australian senate which means the highly contentious carbon tax is gonna kick in as of June 2012.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard declared it “a win for Australia’s children!” but how do tax-paying adults feel about it?

For you and me, the Carbon Tax is going to increase our cost of living by around $9.90 a week because our bills will get bigger. The payoff? We get to contribute to reducing Australia’s carbon emissions and make the world a better place!

And look if Cate Blanchett’s all for it then I guess I am too because celebrities know best and who really knows what the Carbon Tax is really all about.

The problem is, not everyone is as easy-going as Mullet Baby when it comes to this kind of thing.

Tax-adverse angry mobs citizens are already crying Fascism because the Bill didn’t go to public vote. Cue spirited name-calling:

And this via ABC online:

Of course you can see where they’re coming from and democracy is the foundation of our society, etc. But then there is that point that the general public is kind of stupid.
