Australian Man Dies While Descending From Mount Everest Base Camp

A Melbourne man has died after climbing to Mount Everest‘s base camp in Nepal.

It is believed that the man became ill while trekking with three other Australians when he became ill at the camp last Thursday night. He began the approximately 5,300m descent the next morning, but died along the way.

His family were reportedly informed of his death late on Friday. At this time, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have only confirmed that it is “aware of the death of an Australian man in Nepal.”

It is believed that the man had no intention of progressing any further than Everest base camp. Tens of thousands of people visit the base camp each year, with only a few attempting the treacherous climb to the top.
