Australian In Intensive Care After Being Trampled By Elephant In Thailand

An Australian man is in intensive care after being attacked by an elephant on the resort island of Phuket in Thailand.

Chan Yun, 62, was trampled by the female elephant, which had been roaming the Mai Khao beach on Phuket’s north-west coast, near a number of resorts. There was no keeper, fence or supervision of the animal.
Chan suffered rib fractures and spine injuries, as well as further damage to his ribs and kidney, requiring surgery.
This comes after TripAdvisor announced that it will no longer sell tickets to attractions in which travellers interact or come into contact with dangerous or endangered animals in captivity.
Bangkok International Hospital in Phuket have advised Chan’s family that he needs to be transferred to Sydney for treatment via air ambulance. Chan’s travel insurane had been rejected due to a previous condition, meaning that he faces large medical bills.
His family issued a warning to travellers about interacting with wild animals such as elephants.
