Australia Post Wants To Slug Ya Up To Nine Dollarydoos For Missed Packages

Bad news for those among us who somehow manage to miss every package ever sent to them and then can’t get to the post office within business hours to get the damn thing: Australia Post plans to introduce fees for packages held for moe than five days.

At the moment, they’ll hold your package at the post office for 10 days with no fee, then return it to the sender. Under this planned scheme, they’ll hold it for longer, but with an extra $3 charge per week it is held, up to a total of 30 days for $9. They claim they came to this policy after consulting with customers, who allegedly said they’d be happy to pay if it meant they could keep it at the posties longer.
Australia post told News.com.au that this was for the few customers who couldn’t make it within the normal window of time to pick up their cool new products. Most customers want to pick up their parcel quickly, with 92 per cent of parcels collected within five days,” a spokesperson said. “We believe this service will help the small amount of customers who can’t collect their parcel straight away.”

However, the Communication Workers Union, who represents Australia Post workers, reckons it’s just a price gouge which will result in Aussie Post workers copping unnecessary abuse. “We think it’ll bring a lot of grief to our members at the retail shops who’ll cop a bit of abuse,” said the CWU’s Joan Doyle.
This will undoubtedly bit a bit of a nuisance for people who find it hard to get to a post office during business hours during the week for whatever reason. They claim that if they cop too much negative feedback for this scheme they’ll drop it.
