A 12-year-old boy, Connor Creagh, has fully recovered after a bizarre and terrifying accident in which a large fallen tree sprang back upright and crushed him. He was on his grandmother’s property near Kingaroy after wild weather caused the fall, and was posing in front of the tree for a photo when the incident occurred.

According to ABC News, his mother Danielle assumed the boy was safe as the tree was completely down.

“The kids were playing under a tree that had already fallen, so the root ball was actually in the air. I glanced over and thought ‘oh yep, they’re fine’.”

Then she heard a horrific scream, and when she turned she “…could see the other two kids, but we couldn’t see Connor.”

According to Danielle, the tree was upright and she could see Connor trapped from the chest down underneath the root ball. He was unconscious. When paramedics arrived they told her he may never recover from the accident, and was likely to sustain serious brain injuries.

But while Connor is still recovering from the accident, he’s made progress his mother has called a”miracle”. He recently thanked the paramedics who saved his life.

“I can’t wait to figure out what I can do after I get better healed and the rod [in my leg] comes out. My lungs will need a bit more time to be better. I want to get back running, up and running.” he told ABC News.

They also spoke to arborist Kurt Brown, who said trees don’t normally spring back up once they’ve fallen, but it can happen – it’s worth reading the whole story here, tbh.
