Former YouTube star and musician Austin Jones faces five years in federal prison, after pleading guilty to child pornography charges in the US state of Illinois.
At a hearing on Friday, a court heard that the 26-year-old had coerced six underage female fans into sending him lewd videos, and attempted to do the same to 30 others.
In a lengthy plea agreement, Austin Jones admitted that he he used apps including Facebook Messenger to contact the six girls, aged 14 and 15, between 2010 and 2017.
He told the girls that he had “modelling opportunities” for them and encouraged them to perform sex acts in order to prove that they were his “biggest fan.”
Court documents also show that he encouraged several of the girls to “talk about their age” while performing sex acts.
He pleaded guilty to one child pornography count, and prosecutors asked that he be taken into custody immediately until sentencing, but the judge allowed him to remain free.
He will continue to seek counselling until a sentencing hearing in May, where he faces a mandatory minimum of five years in federal prison.
Austin Jones was known for his original songs and pop song covers on YouTube – he amassed a following of 500,000 and some of his videos have received more than a million views.
