Major Suspect In Austin Bombings Blows Himself Up In Confrontation With Police

Police have identified a man who blew himself up during an attempted arrest as the main suspect behind a series of bombings that have occurred recently in Austin, Texas.

Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said that the suspect was attempting to drive away from a hotel on Interstate 35 when he was pursued by officers, eventually stopping in a ditch. When officers approached, he detonated an explosive inside the vehicle.

So far the suspect has only been identified as a 24-year-old white male.

Austin saw six such explosions in the last month, four of which are believed to be the work of a serial bomber, and two of which are as-yet unclear – the most recent happening within the last 48 hours.

Not including the suspect, two people have died and several more have been wounded as a result of the explosions.
