Aussie Senate Does Good, Launches Inquiry Into Revenge Porn

Cool, so – we’re all in agreement that revenge porn is one of the shittiest things you could inflict on another person, yeah? And we’re all down with those fuckers who partake in it having to face the consequences, yeah?

GOOD, because the Senate has launched an inquiry into revenge porn, which will look into – among other things – slapping anyone sharing private images and recordings of former partners WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT with criminal charges.

As reported in The Australian, Labor senator Catryna Bilyk said that “‘revenge porn is not just embarrassing; it is a horrible sexual violation that can cause serious ongoing harm to a person’s career, relationships and mental health. It is increasingly being used to exercise power and control over victims of family violence and to prevent victims of family violence from leaving abusive relationships.”

One in 10 people surveyed have had their nudes or semi nudes distributed without their consent, according to people surveyed as part of the Digital Harassment and Abuse of Adult Australians. Which is just absolutely fuuuuuhked, but sadly, not entirely surprising. [Related: consent explained in tea analogy. BTW – Labor MPs Tim Watts and Terri Butler have already proposed a private members’ bill to outlaw revenge porn. Thanks guys, please keep up all of your excellent work.
