Aussie Entrepreneur Posts Open Letter Dropping $450M Bitcoin Creation Claim

When Aussie entrepreneur and computer scientist Dr Craig Wright came out as ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’, the secretive creator of Bitcoin – and proud owner of US $450M of the electronic bastards – some die-hard supporters of the cryptocurrency doubted his high-falutin’ claims.

Welp, those boffins may just have been proven right, ’cause Wright himself just backed out of his claim altogether. In a short post on his website, the Brisbane-based bloke seems to have just… dropped his case. Have a squiz:

The ‘keys’ he refers to are unique to each Bitcoin ‘mined’, and when he broke the news to the BBC that he was indeed Nakamoto, he supposedly had access to keys linked to the first coins mined. And now, further proof is seemingly kaput.

As for the note? It’s an apparently serious admission of guilt, and we can only hope “goodbye” means a retreat to his once bulletproof privacy.
FWIW, some of the Bitcoin faithful haven’t taken the news too kindly, alluding that his sudden change of heart is either proof he’s just looking to stash his wealth, or that he was pulling our legs all along.

Curious and curiouser. For now, the search for Satoshi Nakamoto continues.
