Art Exhibitions And Shows Opening This Week


Hi art lovers. This week there’s some wonderfully talented artists premiering new works around Australia, including photographers, painters, illustrations, graphic artists, and street artists. Several of the events being held are raising funds to go toward the Queensland flood victims. Friends of Pedestrian have also lent their god given artistic talents to flood victims by donating works to our Flood Relief Auction – Benja Harney, Darren McDonald, Andy Harwood, Daniel Askill and Beastman, plus many more. Who ELIZABETH SCHAFFER
What Sydney-based photographer and journalist Liz Schaffer presents ‘From Elsewhere’, her debut photographic exhibition which will take place at Tap Gallery’s Window Gallery during February.
From Elsewhere is a collection of twenty-five ethereal photographs taken across the globe over the past eighteen months. They capture intimate meetings between strangers, private moments, the details hidden within the world’s largest cities, and the sights that simply make us feel small in a world that cannot be still.

What Brilliant painter John Forrest represents a story of the landscapes and moments of his childhood in the works for solo exhibition ‘The Place’. The place is Werribee South; the time is the late 1950s. The landscape of channels, houses, sheds and flat land, structured by agriculture, is shown in these paintings in different lights and they’re breathtakingly nostalgic.

Who Homage to the ancestors: ritual art from the Chu kingdom
What To coincide with Chinese New Year, this exhibition focuses on the unique theme of ritual art from the specific region known as the Chu, during a time when regional warlords began to annex smaller kingdoms to consolidate power. Featuring some 70 stunning ritual objects including bronze vessels, musical instruments, lacquer wares and jades, most of the exhibition objects are from the treasure-filled tombs of the Marquis Yi of Zeng (died 433 BCE) and an anonymous aristocrat at Jiuliandun (late 4th century BCE).
