Star of Modern Family and sweet baby angel Ariel Winter has been in the news a lot recently – mostly, unfortunately, because of people’s pearl-clutching reactions to her outfits (or lack thereof).
Last week she hit back at the dickheads who’d been criticising her racy Instagram posts, as well she should, we reckon. You might as well enjoy being hot as hell and 19 years old while you can – and as she told Refinery 29:
“Our leadership is really anti-women right now. Thanks to Donald Trump, we’re being objectified and made to feel bad about ourselves, so I think it’s really important for women to stick together and do the opposite of that; to let their bodies be seen and be heard, and to empower each other; to remind each other that what they look like is not the only thing that’s important when it comes to who they are.”
One person who’s not on board with Winter’s sexy Insta persona?
Her mum.
Usually we’d tell you to at least pretend to listen to your ma, even if you don’t agree with her. But in this case, no.
Ariel Winter’s mum, Chrystal Workman, was such a monster to her when she was growing up that Winter’s sister Shanelle Workman filed to become Ariel’s legal guardian in 2012. Winter was fully emancipated from her mother in 2015, and this Mother’s Day post makes her feelings on her biological mother pretty clear:
And now mommy dearest has sold an interview to In Touch magazine where she rips on her youngest daughter for enjoying her body (post-breast reduction surgery!) and dressing how she wants. It’s gross.
Workman told In Touch:
“She needs to grow up. I would tell her to dress properly, be the beautiful person she is. I feel sad that she feels the need to expose herself when it’s not necessary. Ariel is smart, beautiful and talented. She is a legitimate actress. She does not need to do this. She is beautiful with her clothes on.”
This from a woman who hasn’t even seen her daughter for more than three years, and who Winter says emotionally and physically abused and attempted to sexualise her at a young age.
Boo, Chrystal Workman. Body shaming your estranged and successful TV star daughter for cash is really, really low.
