Are Miss Universe Officials Just Contradictory Prudes?

Let’s face facts. The Miss Universe pageant is about appearances. It’s not only judged on looks, of course. The contestants are also judged on personal achievements and in the ‘Interview’ judging category they need to offer an informed opinion about existing world issues. The other two judging categories are ‘Swimsuit’ and ‘Evening Gown’, so an overweight toothless carny would have a below-average chance of scoring highly – irregardless of how brilliantly and articulately they can weigh-in on the AIDS crisis in Africa.

Today the 60th Miss Universe pageant takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for which 89 candidates from around the world will take to the catwalk looking fabulous in bikinis and vague interpretations of their ‘national costumes’. Australia’s contender Scherri-Lee Biggs is currently placed at the top odds to take out the title according to CentreBet, but during the preliminary rounds Biggs has been criticised by pageant officials for her dress choice in the ‘Evening Gown’ category.

According to reports officials found her frock “offensive” and “too see-through”.

Really, who gives a fuck about the Miss Universe competition anyway? Probably not a lot of folks outside the pageant circuit. All the same, it’s pretty interesting that see-through panels on a frock are considered offensive in a competition that judges its competitors on how well they wear a bikini. Officially though, the Miss Universe Organization is a global community empowering role models of beauty, health and leadership for young women of today

And now for the swimwear show reel!!!

We can’t wait for the Interview segment. Live stream here: www.livestream.com/missuniverse.
