Apple Unveils Plan For Global Flagship Smack Bang In Melbourne’s Fed Square

Apple and Melbourne’s Federation Square have revealed plans for the tech giant to open brand-new flagship store, with pride of place in the CBD’s premiere public space.

The two-storey building, which Apple has billed as their most important store in the Southern Hemisphere, will replace the Yarra Building alongside Fed Square’s southern edge.

In a statement, Apple claims the commercial endeavour will aim to maintain the public utility of the space by offering free classes on photography, art, music production, and app development, while also providing greater access to the Yarra River from the plaza.

Plans to chuck an Apple store in Fed Square have been brewing for at least a year, with the company peachy keen to (literally) capitalise on one of Australia’s most popular public spaces.

The Yarra Building is the current home of the Koorie Heritage Trust gallery and info centre, which operates to share and protect Aboriginal culture in Victoria. It is currently unclear where the not-for-profit organisation will move once construction starts in mid-2019.
