Anti-Abbott, Obama-Inspired Billboard Pops Up In Sydney

You’re probably more than aware that things haven’t been looking particularly rosy for Tony Abbott and his crew lately: from LNP heavyweight Malcolm Turnbull contradicting his own boss in parliament to leaks signalling inner party turmoil, drama is afoot in the Coalition, with new additions to the powder keg cropping up on the daily. Soon, that baby’s gonna explode.

Today, a local Sydney campaign has gained attention, as a billboard has popped up in Chippendale, mimicking Shepard Fairey‘s iconic “Hope” poster during the Obama campaign. The anti-Abbott spin on it, however, trades ‘hope’ for ‘hopeless’:

Bleak as hell.

The billboard was erected as part of the “Abbottsolutely Hopeless” campaign, led by Sydney-based designer Michael Agzarian, AKA, triple j’s Nina Las Vegas’ dad. “Obama gave people hope, whereas Abbott just makes us feel hopeless – and is pretty hopeless himself, Agzarian said.

While the most recent Newspoll survey saw the coalition begin to close the gap on the two-party preferred polling, according to SMH, the poll indicated that 77% of those surveyed considered Abbott to be “arrogant” and two thirds found the PM to be “out of touch”. The campaign is aiming to erect more billboards and put up similar posters around Australia – more information on that, if that kind of thing tickles your fancy, can be found here
