Another Homophobic Uber Driver Kicks Out Gay Guys For Kissing In Melbs

For a brief period of time we were all convinced Uber was a perfect, utopian answer to the fact that taxis are mondo expensive and frequently driven by some of the weirdest people alive – but lately a few cracks have started to appear.

Other than the fact that they use a bunch of shitty justifications and loopholes to subvert labour laws so that they don’t have to worry about little things like minimum wages and unfair dismissals, there’s also been a string of disgusting homophobic incidents from some of the drivers.
Drew Ezell was Ubering home from a night out in Melbourne, as he had done many times in the past, when he got kicked out by the driver because he had kissed the dude he was with.
Ezell posted about the incident on Facebook, explaining just how (extremely rightfully) angry he was that he couldn’t get home, just because he was gay:
“It was a small moment of fear, and it passed. And then I went back to feeling angry. And a little sad. Angry that I now live in a world where the thought that me kissing someone might lead to the death of others. Angry that that is even a thought I have to have. Angry that so much senseless violence happens. Angry that 50 of my brothers and sisters are now dead because of who they loved.

“I stopped being angry about a small man in a shitty car who I have already reported to uber. He doesn’t even rate into my feelings or concern anymore. I am now angry that even though it is 2016, I have to be afraid of being punished for who I kiss.”

Ezell’s story closely follows a similar recent event, when two girls were verbally abused by their driver for being gay.

Fuck, if making out in an Uber is enough to get you kicked out, then I should have been kicked out of an Uber at least one or two times.
