If you’re one to believe the ideals that American teenage dramas feed you, you’ll know full-well that if you’re from the US-of-A and don’t get into college, you’re about as useful in life as bird shit on a windscreen.
Like, obviously that’s not true, but the constant flogging of how important higher education is through American Pie spinoffs means that the pressure of an acceptance letter must be real, in comparison to in Aus where most would rather save an odd $50K than undertake a useless Arts Degree just to keep mum and dad smiling.
One surefire way to make sure your application stands out better than Elle Woods‘? A nod of approval from the country’s former First Lady and all-round angel human Michelle Obama.
Black-ish star Yara Shahidi explained to W that Mich wrote her a college recommendation letter, as well as handing out an encouraging “go get ’em tiger” back rub to the 17-year-old actress and activist before her AP exams.
“She is very amazing and such a supporter, which is something very surreal to say,” Shahidi told W.
Shahidi’s applications have now been submitted, where she plans to double major in African-American studies and Sociology. We have a feeling she’ll be getting that acceptance letter – it’s just an inkling, you know?
The fact that she’s got a GPA of 4.6 would also help but Mich, please – this is too kind.
