An Inner West Pub’s Roof Has Partially Collapsed After Catching Fire

A Sydney pub’s roof has partially collapsed after the building’s second story caught fire. Firefighters are currently on the scene battling the blaze.

Located in the inner west suburb of Sydenham, the General Gordon Hotel is situated on the corner of Gleeson Ave. and Burrows Ave. both of which have been closed by emergency services.

The huge plumes of smoke have been spotted all over the inner west, with many taking to Twitter to post video and stills of the scene.

A NSW Police spokeswoman told News.com.au that it’s too soon to tell whether there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze.

According to a post made by the General Gordon Hotel Facebook page, the owners had been working on a new outdoor dining area for the establishment.

A boarding house next door to the pub has been evacuated while the fire burns. The building is situated across the road from Sydenham train station and according to the Transport for NSW website, services will not be stopping at the station.

“Trains are not stopping at Sydenham due to a nearby building fire. Delay your trip or catch local bus routes 348 or 422 from St Peters or Tempe,” the alert reads.
