Alleged SYD Carjacker Nopes Out Halfway Through ‘Cos He Can’t Drive Manual

Here’s a hot crime tip: if you’re going to be a carjacker, you should buy a manual 1994 Honda Civic to practice on before attempting to acquisition a random whip in public. They’re efficient little units, and you might just be able to master the arcane art of shifting gear.

At least one crim could have benefited from this knowledge, after his carjacking attempt failed in Sydney’s Ashfield yesterday afternoon. NSW Police allege a 41-year-old man forced a woman out of her car while stopped at a traffic light, only to find himself unable to move the bloody thing due to its three-pedal arrangement.
The exact opposite of what happened.

After he failed at moving the car, he allegedly snatched the woman’s purse and took off on foot. She alerted Ashfield police of the ordeal. As a matter of coincidence, Sydney City Local Area Command arrested the man on unrelated matters; while searching him, it’s alleged they found the woman’s purse, and cards bearing her ID.

He was subsequently charged with robbery, assault, and intent to take / drive a vehicle. He’ll face Central Local Court on Thursday. That should suit the suspect pretty nicely, seeing as it’s easily accessible by public transport.
