As per The Daily Beast, the 24-year-old model and blogger was found in a suitcase in the hallway of her apartment late last week by her landlord and parents, after her parents hadn’t heard from her since July 22.

Authorities believe that she was murdered by her ex-partner, 33-year-old Maxim Gareyev, a week before she planned to celebrate her 25th birthday with her new partner.

It’s been reported that Maxim began regularly seeing Ekaterina several weeks ago, and he allegedly confirmed to police that they had an intimate relationship until recently.

Speaking with police, Ekaterina’s ex-partner said that he “snapped”, alleging that she had repeatedly demeaned him for his appearance and sex life, leaving him feeling “humiliated.”

“She constantly put me down and said that I am sexually unworthy and ugly. She lowered my financial opportunities and I couldn’t stand it,” he said.

“I stabbed her at least five times with a knife in her neck and chest. I regret it.”

It’s also been reported that during his court appearance, he apologised to her parents and said that he felt ashamed of his actions.

Gareyev is yet to be charged and sentenced following his alleged admissions.
