Remember When Celeb Apprentice Star Alex Hayes Went Stupidly Viral Over A Fucken Shark Selfie?

Australia is a ridiculous place; honestly. It’s filled with creatures designed to murder us, and after a while many of us Aussies just get weirdly complacent about it. So it comes as no surprise that, back in 2015, when then-unknown surfie, now Celebrity Apprentice star, Alex Hayes posted a photo of himself casually taking a selfie with a SHARK, we all just believed it was legit.

Here’s the pic, which subsequently went viral globally – since, you know, it looks like olde mate whipped out his GoPro and took a selfie instead of swimming away screaming.

‘STRAYA, right? Well, yeah kinda – except it then turned out Alex had faked the whole thing.

“I thought it was obvious,” Alex told the SMH at the time. “It was just meant to be a massive joke. People started to take it a bit literally … it just goes to show how things just go viral.”

The wildest part? The shark selfie led to him copping Instagram fame. Yep, Alex Hayes now has a whopping 521k+ followers on IG.

Alex also ended up turning his fame into something lucrative – founding eco-conscious brand The Daily Living, which makes limited run fashion pieces like hoodies and bucket hats.

So there you go. Just fake a selfie with a shark and be a) hot and b) talented, and you too can become IG famous and make eco conscious fashion brands.
