The Couple Arrested For The Airport Drone Chaos Are Pretty Pissed About It

The couple arrested over the increasingly bizarre drone event at Gatwick Airport in the UK have said they feel “completely violated” after they were released without charges.

Paul Gait and Elaine Kirk appeared on Sky News to say that their privacy had been “completely exposed” when they were named in the media and their homes searched by the police.

“The way we were initially perceived was disgusting,” they said.

The UK’s second busiest airport was stalled for 36 hours, with more than 1,000 flights diverted or cancelled and 140,000 passengers inconvenienced when it was reported that drones had been spotted in the airspace around Gatwick Airport.

The situation has become increasingly strange over the past few days. After police started a media frenzy by reporting that there might have actually have been no drone at all, they’re still having trouble identifying anything concrete.

The New York Times reports that while there are 67 eyewitness accounts of the drone activity, there’s still no video, which is incredibly weird when you consider how incredibly surveilled airports are. They did find a busted drone in the area, but that doesn’t really prove anything right now.

A government minister clarified earlier comments from the police that there may have been no drone. Apparently, a meeting chaired by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling affirmed that the 67 drone sightings were in fact legitimate, and they are being actively investigated.

Gatwick Airport announced that it was offering a reward of 50,000 pounds to anyone who can provide info which leads to “the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the criminal act that disrupted flights.”

It’s all being investigated under the Aviation and Maritime Security Act, which comes with a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Look, I don’t know about you, but I seriously hope this was an instance of mass British delusion and there really was no drone, because that would be funny as hell.
