The Premier tweeted this earlier today:
#AdoptionEquality has now passed the Vic Parliament and will be law. I couldn’t be prouder. pic.twitter.com/9ikDBsPPjX
— Daniel Andrews (@DanielAndrewsMP) December 9, 2015
The bill was passed unopposed, with the Opposition given a free vote.
It should be mentioned that Labor did accept an amended version of the Adoption Amendment Bill, which gives religious groups the right to refuse adoption to gay couples – so ‘equality’ still has certain parameters.
But, a step in the right direction is exactly that.
