Activists Finally Get NSW Govt’s Attention, Will Meet To Discuss Lockouts

The NSW Government are holding a ‘night-time economy roundtable’ soon, and have invited the legends behind the ‘Keep Sydney Open‘ protests to participate.

The state government will sit across from the anti-lockout law activists, and listen to and discuss issues and solutions for Sydney’s dwindling nightlife.
They reckon they will take advice on how to improve nightlife in the biggest city in Australia – which is impressive firstly, because they’re finally somewhat admitting there’s a problem.
Speaking about the roundtable, NSW Deputy Premier Troy Grant said,
“Everyone wants a safe and vibrant night-time Sydney economy.

This is an exciting chance to work together.”

The Greens in particular seem thrilled about this, with Newtown MP Jenny Leong saying that the invitation within itself is evidence that the anti-lockout law protests are working:
“Minister Grant seems to be singing a very different tune.

[We] have said from the start that it’s essential that local communities are involved.”
The roundtable, which is an official part of the independent Liquor Law Review, will be held in three stages:
On March 31st, groups will meet to discuss the problems with Sydney’s nightlife. These groups include local government, Keep Sydney Open, Uber, medical professionals, the hotel lobby, live music industry, youth organisations, NSW Police, St Vincent’s Hospital and more.
Then, two more meetings will be held to discuss solutions, on April 28th and May 19th.
The results will then be given to High Court Justice Ian Callinan, who is leading the review. He’ll be done with it in August, so we must wait until then to find out the fate of the once-vibrant Sydders.
