Accused QLD Cop Killer Shot Dead By Police After Overnight Stand-Off

Rick Maddison, the man accused of shooting dead a Queensland police officer yesterday, has been killed by police following a long stand-off.

Assistant Commissioner Tony Wright confirmed Maddison shot at officers at a property in the Lockyer Valley region of Gatton this morning, at which point law enforcement officers returned fire.

Maddison was shot at least three times. He received medical attention, but was confirmed dead shortly after.

His death comes at the end of a tense operation, which was sparked when Maddison allegedly shot dead Senior Constable Brett Forte as the officer attempted to stop his car.
Maddison had fled into bushland after yesterday’s shooting, and kept police at bay at a farm property overnight.

Police say Maddison had an extensive history of violent crime.
