Accused Balcony Killer Gable Tostee Released on Bail

Accused Gold Coast balcony killer Gable Tostee has been released on bail.

At a hearing yesterday, Supreme Court Justice Debra Mullins adjourned her bail decision while considering arguments from the defense and prosecution; today, The Courier Mail report that Tostee’s application was successful.
The 28-year-old has spent three months behind bars, charged with murder following the death of New Zealand tourist Warriena Wright, who fell to her death from his balcony after a Tinder date in August.
As we reported yesterday, Tostee’s lawyers promised that if released back into society, he would abstain from drinking any alcohol, stay away from Tinder, and abide by a strict curfew
This morning, he was granted freedom, but with strict conditions. While on bail, he must live with his parents at their Carrara home, abide by a 10pm-4am curfew, undergo random breath testing and participate in an alcohol rehab program.
Also per the Courier Mail’s report, Tostee is not allowed to use Tinder “or use any form of social media to make arrangements to arrange meetings with any women he had not met before bail was granted.”
That’s a roundabout way of saying he won’t be creeping on you, unless he wants to go back to prison. A total Facebook ban was ruled out as “not practical”, thanks to the likelihood of people creating fake Gable Tostee profiles.
At yesterday’s hearing, the Crown Prosecutor argued that Tostee, who faces a minimum 20 year sentence, has a strong incentive to flee; his parents will have to pay a $200,000 bond, as surety against this.
His murder trial will reportedly commence early next year. As usual, Facebook’s response is … just delightful.
