ABOUT TIME: NSW To Criminalise Revenge Porn, Offenders To Face Jail

HELLS BLOODY YES. In what is the only logical step, NSW will finally move to criminalise revenge porn, with people who share sexually explicit images without the subject’s consent to face fines and even jail time.

It comes after the recent horror as over 2000 young Australian women and girls had their intimate photos shared on a vile ‘porn ring’ website, where dudes ‘hunted’ down nudes of girls online, trading them like baseball cards.

NSW Attorney-General Gabrielle Upton is set to announce the revenge porn crackdown today, as part of her response to a parliamentary inquiry into privacy laws in the digital age.

She’s indicated that criminalising revenge porn will be part of that response. The next step will see the government consult key stakeholders and legal experts as to what constitutes an ‘intimate’ image, how they are shared and distributed, and what penalties should apply.

It will also look at how these same penalties apply to children, who right now can be charged under the same child pornography legislation designed to protect them.

NSW will become the third state to criminalise revenge porn, following Victoria and South Australia.

All we can say is, it can’t come soon enough.
