A 20-year-old man has drowned while bodyboarding at Fingal Head in far north New South Wales.
Police were called to Fingal Headland Point just after 11:30am on Sunday morning, following reports that a man had become distressed in the water.
They were told the man had been bodyboarding when he lost his board and attempted to climb onto the rocks before being swept off.
A number of surf life saving boats, jet skis and a helicopter commenced a desperate search for the man, while distraught family and friends waited on the beach.
The man’s body was pulled from the water just after 1:30pm. Paramedics immediately commenced CPR, but sadly could not revive him.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
