700+ Refugees Launch Legal Action Against Oz Over Manus Island Detention

757 refugees being detained on Manus Island have launched legal action against the Australian Government for human rights violations regarding their detention.

Humans rights lawyer Jay Williams filed the injunction with the High Court today – it alleges that the refugees being held on Manus are being kept in arbitrary and indefinite detention as defined under international law, in addition to subjecting them to torture and degrading treatment.
The claim requests that the refugees be blocked from transfer to Nauru and moved from Manus Island to Australia for processing, in addition to being compensated for damage done while in the centre plus legal costs.
After Papua New Guinea‘s Supreme Court recently ruled that the detention centre was unconstitutional, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton told reporters that there will be zero chance they will be relocated to Australia.
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection haven’t said anything about the case yet because they don’t comment on cases before a court or on-water matters or anything really.
