‘How is this news?’ is a question we get asked rhetorically with some frequency in the comments here at P.TV. The answer is usually one of two things. The first is that it’s not news, it is an opinion piece. The second (and most common) is that we thought whatever the thing was was funny. Pretty straightforward, generally.

Likewise — as inscrutable as it might be to us — there is probably a reason why someone at 9 News Gold Coast thought it was newsworthy that some kids at Schoolies did some nangs. To us, some kids doing nangs at an event designed entirely to facilitate school leavers doing a bunch of drugs and fingering each other does not constitute things taking a “wild turn” — but I guess that is why we are a website that does news stories about big farts and not a television news program:
Schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast have taken a wild turn, with 50 nangs found in the Surfers Paradise party precinct. #9News pic.twitter.com/gsvMStxoLe

While it is somewhat baffling to imagine what makes the remnants of 50 nangs at Schoolies newsworthy, it is 100% worthwhile to hear a Very Serious Newsreader attempt to muddle there way through an explanation of what nangs are. What a wild time to be alive.
