4 Y.O. In WA Severely Lacerated After Spontaneous Shower Explosion

Look, I’m not here to add to your anxieties. I don’t want to suggest to you that your shower could explode at any time. There is not an epidemic of shower explosions going on. Chances are, when you put your vulnerable nude body into your shower in the morning (or at night, if you’re one of those people), you are probably not going to have exploding glass rain over you.
What I am saying is: it happened to someone.
In an absolutely horrific yarn from WA Today, a 4-year-old boy in WA suffered severe lacerations last week when a glass pane in a shower exploded while he was showering next to it.

According to his mum Megan Tilbury in a chat with Radio 6PR, it happened out of nowhere:
“He didn’t hit [the glass], there was nothing in the shower with him… it just exploded.”
Understandably, she was quite alarmed:
“He was just screaming and covered in blood. […] He got lacerations to both arms, his head and his chest, muscle damage in his arm… the plastic surgeon said he was so lucky that’s all that happened.”
According to Tilbury, she had the fitting inspected and was told that it hadn’t been installed correctly:
“He said there should have been a bracket.

“My sister rang the installer when my son was in surgery… and he sounded remorseful and said he would come out and replace it for free.

“He cleaned it all up and said, ‘these things can happen’ and that he couldn’t replace it for free as it didn’t have a warranty.”

I’m no expert but it seems like a warranty probably shouldn’t come into this if you installed it wrong and it exploded. I’m not a lawyer, though.

Her son, Cruz, sustained some extremely hectic injuries to his arms, head and chest, the poor guy.
