4 Dead, 2 Critical After Canadian School Shooting, PM Trudeau Confirms

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed that four (editor’s note: previously reported as five) people have died in a school shooting in the nation’s heartland. At least two others were injured in the incident, and are currently in a critical condition.

Mobile phone footage has been released after the incident, showing students’ disarray.

Despite a high rate of gun ownership, mass shootings in Canada are infrequent, making this situation a tragic outlier.

Reuters reports the suspect fatally shot his two brothers at home before arriving at the school, where he killed one girl and a teacher. That teacher was later identified as the 23-year-old daughter of the town’s acting mayor, Kevin Janvier.

Several of the young victims wounded are currently being treated in Saskatoon.
