A 23-year-old American woman says she is preparing to auction her virginity, with a legal brothel owner speculating the winning bidder could spend as much as $1 million.
Bailey Gibson has sought the assistance of Nevada’s Moonlite Bunny Ranch brothel in an attempt to sell her virginity, writing “contrary to popular belief (and societal norms) attractive 23-year-olds can be virgins too, I am happy to say.”
In a January 1 blog post, Gibson writes that she was driven to capitalise on her virginity due to a combination of factors: a deeply religious upbringing, a failed relationship with a cheating partner, and the loss of her job in real estate.
“I thought that I could trade my virginity for my boyfriend’s lifelong devotion. I was wrong,” Gibson writes.
“So, I decided that I was going to get something for my virginity — something that benefits me and my life. I wanted to lose my virginity in the most profitable way possible.”
Speaking to News.com.au, Moonlite Brothel’s communications director Jeremy Lemur said the business had already received a “deluge” of inquiries, leading him to speculate the final bid could top “seven figures.”
The auction comes after a 19-year-old model named Giselle reportedly sold her virginity in 2017 for around $3.9 million to an Abu Dhabi-based businessman. And, in 2009, bidding for 22-year-old Natalie Dylan’s virginity reportedly topped out at around $4.8 million.
Ending her blog post, Gibson says “we all make choices. Mine was to wait. Now it is to sell.”
