No, Sia has not joined the Yeah Yeah Yeahs as the photographic evidence of the newly blonde Karen O may suggest. And it’s not just a new look that the enigmatic front-woman is sporting. Only days out from their arrival in Australia as part of the Big Day Out tour, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have debuted two new songs at a show in Panoma, California.
It’s promising stuff, if a bit of a departure from the synth-ified danciness that made It’s Blitz one of the best albums of 2009. Opening track Suck Young Blood provides a nod to grimey swagger of their earlier materiel while the second untitled new song sees a return to the Show Your Bones era balladry. The new songs are expected to be on the band’s new album which is due in March/April.
