We Regret To Inform You That The Suspected Beyoncé Album Leak Is A Big Fat Lie

beyonce album leak fake news

If you awoke suddenly during the night with an overwhelming but inexplicable sense of anticipation and joy, it was probably because the entire internet was losing its shit over a suspected leak of previously-unreleased Beyoncé material.

Yes. Beyoncé. And if the rumours were true, then the response would 100% have been warranted. Unfortunately, “true” is not the word I’d use to describe said rumours.

The timeline is as follows: fans started freaking out when they found what appeared to be new tracks on Spotify and Apple Music on Thursday (Friday our time).

The two ten-track albums were called Have Your Way and Back Up, Rewind, and were released under the name Queen Carter (love it) – so far, so new. However, the albums appear to have contained only previously released or bootlegged ‘Yoncé tunes – including original soundtrack material like ‘Hey Goldmember‘ from the third Austin Powers film, the Bad Boys II banger ‘Keep Giving Your Love To Me‘, and a bonus track from the Japanese release of 2003’s Dangerously In Love.

The streaming services quietly removed the “new” material after a few hours, but that still doesn’t answer the question of exactly what was going on here. Is this an accidental preview of a new project from Bey herself, using the Queen Carter name? A spot of old-fashioned human error? Or some well-meaning superfan deciding to upload their hand-crafted Beyoncé B-side compilations?

Considering Beyoncé’s legendary secrecy, we’re probably never going to find out. And yes, it does feel a tiny bit like Christmas has been cancelled – but who knows what 2019 will bring. Fingers crossed, friends. Maybe the Queen Bee will deliver.
