What would a Lana Del Rey release be without some kind of controversy baiting? True to form, the lengthy video for her single National Anthem is an interpretation of the contentious love triangle between President John F. Kennedy, wife Jackie O and rumoured flame Marilyn Monroe, with Del Rey portraying both women and rapper A$AP Rocky playing the Prez. The era is of course perfect for Del Rey’s retro steez and her preference for dreamy soft-focused footage.
The eight minute long video was directed by Anthony Mandler who has revealed the idea was conceived entirely by Lana – any excuse for a bit of on-screen pash time with A$AP.
