Watch Guy Sebastian Take On Karaoke Choons W/ Unexpectedly Not-Shit Singer

The sport of karaoke isn’t reserved only for excellent singers (despite anyone’s wishes for the contrary). Whether it’s horrendous pipes or angelic voices on offer, somehow it’s all gravy when there’s lyric videos and a microphone ready to go.

That’s why earlier this year we teamed up with AirAsia to invite all voices – good and bad – to enter a karaoke comp. The prize? Oh, just a trip to do karaoke in Tokyo with the one and only Guy Sebastian, AirAsia’s brand ambassador. No biggie.

After some very uncomfortable viewing we landed on the soothing sound of Lachlan Geraghty and crowned him karaoke king. We weren’t the only ones that reckon his singing chops are up to scratch as well, with the man, the myth, the legend Sebastian also likening Geraghty’s sound to Sam Smith while on the trip.

They belted choons at the famed Karaoke Kan in Shibuya, in none other than Room 601. Yes, the same room that Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray went to musical town in during the film ‘Lost In Translation’. The karaoke machine in this bad guy is so top-notch you can change the pitch/key pace for each track.

Watch the full experience below and kick yourself that you didn’t enter.

Butchering classics like MJ‘s ‘Heal The World’, Aladdin‘s ‘Whole New World’ and Aerosmith‘s ‘Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’ with an Aussie icon? Yeah, your loss – but not just on the national treasure front.

Tokyo is like no other city in the world, and not just because it’s got the best karaoke bars going around. It’s a destination high on anyone’s bucketlist for its weird, wonderful and fast-paced appeal, complete with animal face masks, robot waitresses and WTF get-ups at every turn. Keen?
