Watch Grimes’ “Oblivion” Video

Montreal-based, post-internet, Coldwave, indie-pop musician Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) counts musicians as disparate as Mariah Carey and Nine Inch Nails, Jigglypuff (the Pokémon) and OutKast as having influenced her forthcoming album Visions (due March 9th), with the video for her latest single ‘Oblivion’ – directed by Emily Kai Bock – featuring Grimes singing along to her lo-fi ambient jam at a motocross rally, an American football game, in a pretty creepy locker room, and at a jock-ular slamdancing party. The clip follows on from her first single Genesis, which we covered here.

It’s pretty entrancing and extraterrestrial stuff from the twenty-three year old who comes across as something of a musical hybrid of Tavi Gevinson and Karin Dreijer Anderrson of The Knife.
