Watch Florence + The Machine Cover Buddy Holly

His didn’t have the chance at a prolonged career like he deserved, but Buddy Holly‘s influence has had a resounding impact on American rock and roll since; and has inspired the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Bob Dylan. Watch English songstress Florence Welch cover a soulful rendition of Holly’s 1957 hit Not Fade Away in the footage below via the good people at NOWNESS.

Florence recorded the cover as a part of a 19-track tribute album Rave On Buddy Holly, commemorating the late musician’s 75th birthday. She is joined by Julian Casablancas, Paul McCartney, Karen Elson (and Jack White), Patti Smith, Jenny O., My Morning Jacket and Lou Reed as they all pay homage to the late rock and roll legend.

“He elevated the ordinary to poetry,” says Randall Poster, one of the album’s producers and music supervisor for films by Wes Anderson, Martin Scorsese and Todd Haynes. “A lot of artists have found inspiration and identified with Buddy Holly, because they feel like he’s everyman, not a superman. He gave John Lennon the confidence to wear glasses.”
