Watch Bjork’s Stunning Interactive, 360-Degree Video, ‘Stonemilker’

Currently reaching the final days of her extensive artist retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Björk has now released an immersive video for the haunting track ‘Stonemilker‘, off her 2015 album Vulnicura: an interactive, 360-degree “virtual reality” work which previously only had legs at the MoMA exhibition, through the use of Oculus Rift headwear.

Today, Björk’s ambitious work now exists on YouTube, offering up a fascinating use of emerging technology to provide an absolutely stunning, and absolutely Björk piece of video art. Shot on location in Björk’s native Iceland, ‘Stonemilker’ allows viewers to move about the frame in 360 degrees – following the artist’s movements, exploring the landscape, or just sitting still – watching the honeyed sunset over a black sand shore.

‘Stonemilker’ adds to Björk’s increasing portfolio of technological, interactive works: the artist released an app to complement her 2011 album Biophilia – cited as the world’s first “album app” and making history as the first app to be featured in MoMA’s permanent collection.
