WATCH: Bec Sandridge Goes Full Farnsey On An Interesting ‘Like A Version’

We do love ourselves some Bec Sandridge. The young legend has one of the most unique voices getting about in Australian music at the moment, and that haunting vocal vibrato of hers can stop a room.

Is it suited to today’s effort on ‘Like a Version‘ though? You guys can be the judge of that.
Triple J‘s weekly celebration of musical roots is often a bit of a roll of the dice: The best ones take an artist well out of their own comfort zone to find something quite remarkable.
Sandridge taking on John Farnham‘s bawdy pub singalong favourite and iconic Australian anthem ‘You’re The Voice‘ is about as far out of that comfort zone as you could possibly ever get.
Her version of the tune, which belted out over the airwaves a little earlier this morning, builds on a constant crescendo, even if it doesn’t quite hit Whispering Jack’s unmistakable vocal heights.
Even still, the pre-chorus soars and once the guitars kick in underneath the fist-pumping heart of the tune begins to shine through.
It’s not the greatest ‘LaV‘ you’ll ever lay ears on, and Bec herself admitted being extremely nervous in the post-tune chat. But we quite like it nonetheless.

The best bit about all this? You’re free to listen to it, decide you don’t like it, and then move on with your day completely unabated.
Music’s kinda great like that.
