WATCH: Aussie Hip-Hop Legends Collab On Huge ‘Change The Date’ Track

In the lead-up to our nation’s very controversial Australia Day, the finest local hip-hop acts have banded together to create a fresh and catchy track urging the date to be changed from January 26th.

The banger was released through National Indigenous Television in a collaboration with record labels Elephant Traks and Bad Apples. Urthboy recruited legends like L-Fresh the Lion, Ozi Batla and Thundamentals to contribute to the song (aptly called ‘Change The Date’).
There has been a particularly potent amount of controversy surrounding Australia Day this year. Triple J were copping a lot of heat to change their ‘Hottest 100 countdown to any other day (which they haven’t). Rapper/founder of Bad Apples, Briggs, also penned a killer track in his duo A.B. Original called ‘January 26’. It has become super popular, and there’s a lot of hope that it could ironically nab first place in the ‘Hottest 100’.
Tuka from Thundamentals said that ‘Change The Date’ was originally twice as long because “more and more beautiful people wanted to be a part of it”:

“It was really tight, they did a welcome to country before we even started and it was like a 10 hour day and it was a really good experience.

“By the end the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up, it was just a crazy vibe.”
So, while you continue to despair about our nation, do yourself a favour and get into the very empowering, and incredibly necessary, ‘Change The Date’. Hell, you can have a whole VR experience while you’re at it:
