With a cast that includes Zooey Deschanel, Claire Danes, Winona Ryder and Michelle Williams, Amiel Courtin-Wilson’s documentary named after Ben Lee’s 99th hottest track from 2005, ‘Catch My Disease‘ has more manic pixie dream girls and GIF-able feel good vibe than the entire Tumblr community.
Courtin-Wilson, who also directed Bastardy and Hail (out now in selected release), made ‘Disease‘ with Lee over a period of eight years and the documentary follows the singer, songwriter and Cannes winner’s spiritual, personal and musical journey in the wake of recording Awake Is The New Sleep, the self-appointed greatest Australian album of all time. The film had a limited release in cinemas earlier this year and even screened on the ABC at one point, which is why it’s strange that it’s only now receiving an international cinematic release. Strangely enough, you still can’t watch it on iTunes here. There’s something to be said about the ways of the universe in that if you care to dig deeply.
‘Catch My Disease‘ also features Jason Schwartzmann, Mike D, Thurston Moore, Lee’s wife Ione Skye, Christina Ricci and lots of teenage Danes, which is never a bad thing. If you enjoy Claire Danes’ face and its unique ability to emote, you should check out this Tumblr, The Claire Danes Cry Face Project after you watch the trailer below.
